Overview
This a ready-to-run and pre-configured Squid 3.5 Proxy Server on CentOS Stream 8 Image has a wide variety of uses, including speeding up a web server by caching repeated requests, caching web, DNS, and other computer network lookups for a group of people sharing network resources, and aiding security by filtering traffic.
After Squid 3.5 Proxy Server on CentOS Stream 8 is installed, web browsers can be configured to use it as a proxy HTTP server, allowing Squid to retain copies of the documents returned, which, on repeated requests for the same documents, can reduce access time as well as bandwidth consumption. It can be useful for Internet service providers to increase speed to their customers, and LANs that share an Internet connection.

- Squid handles all requests in a single, non-blocking, I/O-driven process over IPv4 or IPv6.
- Squid keeps metadata and especially hot objects cached in RAM
- Caches DNS lookups, supports non-blocking DNS lookups
- Implements negative caching of failed requests.
- Squid supports SSL, extensive access controls, and full request logging.
- By using the lightweight Internet Cache Protocol, Squid caches can be arranged in a hierarchy or mesh for additional bandwidth savings.
Although primarily used for HTTP and FTP, Squid includes limited support for several other protocols including Internet Gopher, SSL, TLS, and HTTPS.
