Overview
Iperf is a network traffic tool for measuring TCP and UDP performance with metrics around both throughput and latency. It allows creating data streams to measure the throughput between the two ends in one or both directions.
The data streams can be either Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or User Datagram Protocol (UDP):
- UDP: When used for testing UDP capacity, Iperf allows the user to specify the datagram size and provides results for the datagram throughput and the packet loss.
- TCP: When used for testing TCP capacity, Iperf measures the throughput of the payload. Iperf uses 1024 x 1024 for mebibytes and 1000 x 1000 for megabytes.
This pre-configured for AWS Cloud Environments Image contains Iperf3 that is a new implementation from scratch, with the goal of a smaller, simpler code base, and a library version of the functionality that can be used in other programs.
This Iperf3 Image also incorporates a number of features found in other tools such as nuttcp and netperf. For example, a zero-copy mode and optional JSON output are included.
Highlights
- Power tool for active measurements of the maximum achievable bandwidth on IP networks
- For each test, it reports the bandwidth, loss, and other parameters
- Set time and traffic information. Get testing results in one click. You can check the connection speed wherever you are.

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
