What do you like best about the product?
The Bright Initiative is a great ally for researchers. They have many datasets readily available for research, have teams that can collect data for researchers, and provide resources for researchers to collect data themselves. They do all this for free as a service to the research community. Their team is quite responsive and I always have a great experience with their partnership managers. I highly recommend them to any researcher or professor looking to collect data.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing so far. I didn't have any negative experience so far.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The Bright Initiative is helping researchers collect data that otherwise would cost researchers a lot of money. Their data is helping me with my research.
Superb support for academic research
What do you like best about the product?
Bright data has superb support for academic research. Besides the amazing data they provide, their data sets are well organized and easy to use. Importantly, they are happy to customize to your data demand. In addition, they have been very responsive and patient in accomodating your data demands. They have helped my research tremendously and I definitely would recommend Bright data to anyone in academia.
What do you dislike about the product?
They are superb and nothing to dislike about.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm an economists and Bright data helps me greatly in my research on the interaction between labor and firm. They provide amazing linkedin data. In addition, I used Bright data's SERP api to get customized google search results. Besides standard data, they are willing to customize their data to accomdate your demand. Their support to academia is generous and amazing.

Well-documented dataset and rich information covering millions of individuals, significantly improving my research efficiency

JSON format received. It tooks a while for me do transform it into other format.

Bright Data offer me rich information from LinkedIn about individual employment records, which enables me analzing their mobility pattern and entrepreneurial activities.

What do you like best about the product?
I think the customer service is very good. I always get a quick response from my product manager and the procedure of applying for access to the data is pretty quick.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think the data directly downloadable is too raw. Also, it would be better if you could offer a data dictionary.

Bright Data helped me with my research and if gives me quick access to the data.
Brightdata for research
What do you like best about the product?
If found it easy to request scrapers. I expected some back-and-forth to get exactly the data I need, but the developers got it right the first time. The developers also respond to issue very quickly. Tickets I've submitted have generally been resolved in less than 24 hours.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be difficult to predict the cost of a given number of inputs to the scraper, because different inputs lead to different numbers of page loads. There may not be any way for Brightdata to change this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm researching the costs and benefits of sponsored content on social media. Through Brightdata, I've been able to collect a large volume of social media data to analyze.
Excellent support for Academic Research Project
What do you like best about the product?
I have used the platform for one research project so far, but am planning to collaborate with Bright Data again in the future. In my opinion their platform is quite intuitive and easy to use, also because they conduct an onboarding session including a video tutorial. The data was provided in a way that was easy to implement and integrate into my research workflow. Their staff was super responsive via mail and we also had multiple zoom calls to discuss any issues. What do you dislike about the product?
So far there is nothing that I disliked about Bright Data. It is true that some technical knowledge is helpful to make the most use of the resources that they provide. Lastly, I can only speak to the quality of the Bright Initiative; I did not use any commercial services.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was working together with the Bright Initiative of Bright Data. Specifically, they supported me with a research project investigating the behavior of social media users. For this I need to gather vast amounts of data from multiple social media platforms. Bright Data supported me by granting me access to thei Dataset Marketplace which allowed me to filter through the Instagram data to create a comprehensive set of data relevant for my study. In addition to the pro bono provision of data, Bright Data also convinced me with excellent technical support.

As ackademic collaborator, I did not pay the fees, so not sure about it but it seems that scraping is expensive.

The Population Project attempts to list the full name and date of birth of all humans alive. We're constantly looking for online resources, querying Google in various languages and from multiple locations. We found about Bright Data as we were looking for a provider of proxies.
We got lucky enough to be handpicked as a non-profit partner and joined the Bright Data Initiative program as a result. We now have access to the full spectrum of Bright Data's services, a privilege on which it's difficult to pin a dollar value. The breadth of the product range is mindboggling.
What I like best about Bright Data is the ease of interaction with both the service and the technical teams. All of our questions or requests are quickly accommodated. I wish all our IT providers were as kind and diligent!

It took me a bit of time to get acclimated with the dashboard interface and the permission system. But we're all good now!
